Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing to inquire about a potential School Guidance Counselor / Career Counselor vacancy. My
personal experience as a student has helped me recognize the comforting effect of being able to approach a knowledgeable counselor
who genuinely cares for the success of students; I am committed to making the same kind of difference in the lives of your
In addition to counseling students in a traditional school setting, I was afforded the unique opportunity
of working in a non-traditional counseling program that implemented mental health counseling practices. I worked alongside
an extremely talented individual who is certified in both School and Mental Health Counseling, and manages a section of the
school known as the Time Out Room. The nature of the program taught me how to effectively apply Mental Health Counseling techniques
to help students understand and deal with social, behavioral, and personal problems.
I experienced the challenge of interacting with a broad spectrum of students, including children who
were behaviorally problematic, emotionally challenged, cognitively deficient, handicapped, average learners, and those who
were gifted and talented. The wide variety of situations I encountered and the skills obtained from dealing with them, will
distinguish me from the other applicants and will prove beneficial to your students. I am confident this position would enable
me to pursue an path that will allow me to earn a livelihood in a career that will bring me personal and professional satisfaction.
I have researched your school’s reputation for teaching excellence and look forward to having
the opportunity to meet with you. I believe my educational background in addition to my work related duties of counseling
and advising students enrolled in learning programs, qualifies me for consideration for the position of School Counselor.
I enthusiastically look forward to discussing how my skills can be of value to your school.
Thank you for your consideration,
Ms. Jennifer Palese
